Renting in Quintana Roo

Can't Post | Private Reply
My husband and I will be looking to rent a house on or near the beach somewhere in the Yucatan between Tulum and Chetumal. Does anyone know a contact we can talk to? We're thinking of renting for 9 mo. to a year. Thanks!

Thanks, Jim. Will keep looking at the site from time to time! We live in Xalapa now, and will be hopefully moving over to the carribean when we can find a home after the first of this next year.

Saw your post to Jim in Cancun, and have just returned from 16 days in Quintana Roo and Yucatan, including three below Tulum on Punta Allen road, and six at xcalak in Casa del Sol. Forget renting below where the road from Tulum changes from paved to UNPAVED, and I mean the worst that I have ever seen, Mexico or anywhere. Also, the Sian Ka'an Biosphere begins not too far south, and there is nothing to rent or anywhere to stay. Went with my son, and we stayed at Cabanas Tulum, where we were right smack on the beach with nice room, clean bath, and the best view of the Caribe that you will see until you get to xcalak. There we spent six days at Casa del Sol, which was an unforgetable experience, making it the best trip of my ten vacations in Mexico. Once you leave Tulum you can go all the way down Route 307 to Limones, turn left at Limones to Majual, and right at Majual to xcalak. xcalak has the best diving, snorkeling, fishing, and eating that you will find. The road from xcalak north along the coast is just as bad as the Punta Allen road, BUT they had a Caterpillar tractor and big roller straightening that out when we left, and all will be greatly improved before you plan to go. A must website for you is www.xcalak.tv. The site has a message board, and links where you can look for anyhting that you want to know about xcalak. The site is maintained by Bill-In-Tulsa, and if you make reservations through him for accomodations there is a 15% discount for diving with XTC, which is the largest dive operation there. I know that we were there for six days, and that you and your husband want to spend nine months in the area, but this is a start. A good book for you to obtain is "Adventure Guide to the Yuacatan, Cancun & Cozumel", by Bruce and Jane Concord. Also go to www.mexconnected.com, from which you went to the Yucatan forum, look along the left of the screen, scroll down to the listing of "2175 websites in Mexico, hit it with your mouse, type in "yuacatan" where it requests more specifics, and you will find Casa Blanca Real Estate which has rentals, sales, and investment property in Yucatan, Quintant Roo, and Campeche. Give me a buzz if you need more info. SAC, known on www.mexconnected.con as "sacc3850" Buen suerte!

Hi there! Thanks sooo much for all of your concise wonderful information. I will definitely look up the website and the book you recommended. Have you yet seen "Hidden Cancun and the Yucatan?" It too has wonderful information. We just got back from a few days in Veracruz with a friend, and heard lots of great things about Campeche too. Thanks again.

From: sacc3850, SAC is back!

Just a little add-on replying to your reply to my reply to your post. From what I can gather you all are not short on time, so here is one idea. First, I have not read the book that you mentioned. If you are looking for rentals, go to the mexconnected.com website, and to the left scroll down from the FINDING section to the spot where you can hit on the listing for 2500 websites for Mexico. When that opens, go down to the blank box where you can list what you are looking for, then type in "yucatan". When you see that open up scroll down to "Rentals in Yucatan". That is the website for Tierra Maya Real Estate. Unfortunately, all the rentals that I see listed are for Merida. Some of the prices of the beach places for SALE make my mouth water. However, if you go to Campeche, which I wish to see on my next trip, you can go on to Merida, and use that for a base from which to operate. If you go there, stay at the "Posada Toledo", a nicely refurbished colonial old time hotel at the corner of 57th and 58th streets(on 57th). A double will only cost $ 34 per night. Unless you are going well out of town, take cabs. They cost $ 3 to $ 4 per ride, and save the hassle of getting your car in and out of the parking, which costs $ 5 per day, and is next door in the parking garage, which has spaces reserved for Posada Toledo. There is music in the various plazas every night. Go to the "Teatro Indigena", which is an hour and one-half presentation put on by about 150 nicely costumed Mayas every Saturday night in their village of Ticopo. Take a cab to the second-class bus station, and get the bus to Ticopo. They are the best second-class buses that I have ridden in Mexico. Check at the Municipal Tourismo for the time. You can by ticketd there, and they are only $ 12 each. Ask for the location of the Habana/Flor de Santiago restaurant nearby, about two blocks away. It is like a first class coffee shop in the U.S. USED to be. Uniformed waiters, friendly and pleasant service, and GREAT reasonably priced food. Take a cab to the Museum of Anthropology to get a view of the priceless art treasures of the Maya. Forget the budget and eat dinner at Alberto's Continental at 64th and 57th. Try the fish "Celestun", which is filet of sea bass stuffed with shrimp. For desert, try the "pay de nueces", which is almond pie served hot. My mouth is watering typing this. Will close now, but if you want instructions of the shortest route to the Caribe, and to Tulum, before heading to xcalak, give me a buzz. Buen suerte! sacc3850

Hi, I was just in the PDC are last week. I meet a real estate person from the US that lives and handles property in the PDC area. Her name is Lisa. Phone number is (984) 877-8600. She lives in Tankah by Akamal. Had a great home that was for sale (don't know about rental) 2 or 3 doors down from her house, right on the beach at Casa Cenote. House was selling for 500k so if it rents I would assume pretty high. Beautiful place. I am sure she know of others for rent. I also know that there is places in Purto Morales for rent called casa morales.

Thanks so much! We actually found a place in Progreso that we will be renting starting in January. I do appreciate your information, and I will keep it handy.
