Quick and dirty

Oh, forgive me, I've searched the forums, but I never completely understand if I can somehow more effectively manipulate the process of moving down our minimized assortment of stuff to Oaxaca. I got a very very ballpark quote of $3800 to move 35 boxes of junk (that we must move for my son's sake) from Portland, Oregon to Oaxaca.

Surely there must be a better (cheaper) way.

Can these boxes somehow be mailed and be exempt from duty (because of our one-time $5000 household allowance)? Is this cheaper?

Have others used some creative methods of accomplishing such a task?

Thirty-five boxes of junk can be stored in Portland for quite a long time for $3,800. Besides, once here, your son will have to move them back NoB unless he decides to live here.

I suggest you e-mail our Oaxaca columnist Alvin Starkman. His e-mail is listed at the end of each article. I believe he drove his household goods down himself.

Thanks--I should have explained that we are moving to Oaxaca. The house goes on the market today, and we bought our plane tix for August 4th. We'll be finishing up our FM3 paperwork soon.

Take care,
Serena
