Playa del Carmen living costs

Can't Post | Private Reply
Im retiring on $1200.00/month and interested in living in Playa del Carmen but do not know if two persons can live there on my retirement income. If not we may opt out for a more affordable place to live in Mexico. Our needs are simple and we prefer the Mexican way of life over golf course living, etc. Thanks for any replies which give us some direction.

Of course you 'could' live on that, many locals live on less but they generally have the support of their extended family and they don't live in a home with only 2 people. I don't know how recently you have been in Playa? It is the fastest growing city in MX the last I heard. It is a tourist destination and the prices have gone up accordingly. If you really want to live in a more mexican city, look at Chetumal. It is also on the caribbean, next to the Belize border, it doesn't yet show up on the tourist radar and the prices are thus much lower.
