Murder in Isla Mujeres of American woman

Can't Post | Private Reply
The Denver paper has been playing up the murder of an American from Colorado, a woman who was a resident of Isla Mujeres. Apparently the assailant went in through the hole where the air conditioner would normally be (it was out for service). She was beaten with a concrete block.

Did not know if people were aware of it, but perhaps people just have no comments on the subject. (This board is not very active, the latest message was a few days ago, so perhaps that explains the lack of discussion.)

My take on it is that Mexico is a violent country, like the USA, so we should not be surprised.

We've been crying our eyes out on the Isla board. She was killed for a laptop, her neighbor's laptop and some clothes by a bricklayer working around her Marina apartment. The ACs were out for the work and the dogs didn't bark for this familiar man. Early reports had her raped, but she was not and her tox screen was clean. She was killed by multiple blows to the face and the thief took the first ferry to Cancun, where an arrest was made last night. So sad. A 45 year old retiree/artist.

The killer was a 21 year-old drug addict. They located him 4 days after the murder in Cancun and arrested him on Friday. He confessed.

A sad situation indeed and so very undeardof on Isla Mujeres.

It was heartening that his so-called friends at the cantena flipped on him right away after seeing he had changed his clothes and was headed to the ferry with three suitcases after what was to be a cantena trip only.. It is unheard of on Isla, you are right, but I was also a bit dismayed by the reaction of tourists who want to do away with cantenas, the police and government in general. I seldom covered a homicide here in the states where it was closed in 5 days. There is something to be said for the Napoleonic system!
