Missing Tribune Article on Arrests in Murder of Brad Will

Brian, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it you who wrote that post about a week ago lamenting that some of us "lefties" write very well but some of us didn't read very well? Well, the article on 5 men arrested for the killing of the reporter you apparantly were looking for was listed on MexCon, Latest Mexico column on the Home page.I suppose, like me,people couldn't lead you to it because we didn't recognize your quotation of the article which was so different in significant ways from the actual quotation from the Tribune article.Try comparing the two and see if you can figure out the difference.

Sorry, your non-reading credentials are very good, but we can't welcome you into our group.I'm also sorry you don't accept PRs so there's no other way to write you.

This is the post to which you refer. I never said or implied anything about "lefties". Why did you put that in quotes? I did say that I give up in frustration from people reading more into some of the messages I have sent than what is actually said. This is called "projection". I also wrote that I think you are bent on shooting the messenger and I have become tired of receiving your personal messages outside the view of the other readers here. It is for that reason that I removed my personal profile and turned off personal messages. No, I didn't think to look at Mexconnect's front page for the article you mentioned since it supposedly came from the Chicago Tribune. I naturally, looked to the source and neither it nor a Google News search has turned up anything like what was written. Eventually, another list member has responded with information that the killers have been identified though on the deceased reporter's videotape.

This statement is SO revealing. Mexicans believe that people in the U.S. look down upon them. It seems to me that is your perch also. You don't think the Mexicans can police themselves???? My God, what an arrogant attitude that is.

OK, I am sure some people will be happy with this, but, I give up. I questioned the "Mexican neighbors" being able to police themselves. If they could, there would be no need for police departments. People are projecting far more into some of these messages rather than reading them literally. This thread is entitled "This looks more like Iraq than Mexico". Somehow some of the readers here think that I made a direct comparison of the dynamics of the respective conflicts in the two countries. The comparison was solely about the imagery i.e. the blindfolded hostages. I didnt say or imply that there was a Mexican Al Zarqawi waiting behind them to cut off their heads. You are probably right, though, I may be guilty of a bit of arrogance when it comes to this message board. I do believe that my postings are well-thought-out and that some people here can write brilliantly but don't read very well.

saludos

The Chicago Tribune reported today,!0/31,"5 men arrested in killing of US journalist,Bradley Roland Will, including the police chief and two of his officers from nearby Santa Lucia del Camino."

The other other side of the coin is,as is often the case, police violence!

That Trib report was a bit premature as well as flat wrong. In today's edition (2 Nov) they are reporting 2 arrested, same as Fox News.

The missing Chicago Tribune article is here.

Lines drawn in tense Mexican city
Protesters defiant as Fox declares victory

Rogue elements of the conflict have damaged the image of the fledgling movement, as well as local government.

Plainclothes police allegedly have killed several protesters, including independent journalist Bradley Roland Will, of New York, who was shot Friday along with three Mexicans.

Local authorities over the weekend announced the arrest of five men in the slaying of Will, including the police chief and two of his officers from nearby Santa Lucia del Camino.

Noone's been arrested although the police perpetrators have been identified in Brad Will's video:

CRIMENES SIN CASTIGO - Noticias de Oaxaca
http://www.noticias-oax.com.mx/articulos.php?id_sec=12&id_art=48374&id_ejemplar=1269

"Por el crimen del periodista se inició la averiguación previa 1247/CR/2006 y aún cuando estaban identificados por los videos difundidos en medios nacionales y fotografías publicadas, la Policía Ministerial no ha detenido a ninguno de los presuntos responsables, al protegerlos por ser policías del municipio priísta de Santa Lucía del Camino."

I wouldn't trust what's printed in the US press. For one thing they don't have any local reporters stationed anywhere but DF. For another they just regurgitate press releases that are clearly slanted... for example to put in a news report that 'rogue elements' have disgraced 'the movement' in a report about the officials of Ruiz' government assasinating the states own citizens. I look for where the article talks about Ruiz' 'rogue government' but I don't see it.

I think the two detained they are two of the original five suspects.

Will caught the shooters on camera.

2 Detained in U.S. Journalist's Slaying

"The state prosecutor's office said Wednesday that two people were in custody and authorities were expected sometime this week to present the suspects to a judge who would decide whether to charge them in connection with Will's death.

Mayor Manuel Martinez of Santa Lucia del Camino, where Will was killed, said the suspects are officials of the municipality on the outskirts of Oaxaca. They were detained after residents identified them as the people who shot Will, the state prosecutor's office said in a news release."
