Looking for Apt. Near Centro in Oaxaca

Can't Post | Private Reply
I've been searching online but find communicating with apartment owners has proven difficult...help is appreciated in finding a place...
the apartment can be temporary while I search for a better/more suitable place....or it could be for a year or longer...
I'm looking for a place that is:
1--within walking distance of or in Centro
2--will accept 2 cats
3--has a safe place to park a small car
4--has a comfortable couch to stretch out on
5--cable TV
6--WiFi
7--a fan or A/c or good cross breeze
8--all utilities included in rental
9--is available from mid-March through end of April, maybe through May.... and maybe much longer if the price and place are right...(I could pay rent for the full month of March to secure the right place, even though I won't be there the first half...)
10--and is a very safe place to live...
If anyone knows of such a place, I would be most grateful....
Thanks in advance...
Cynthia R.

How much do you want to pay for rent?
Generally, Oaxaquenos who have apts. for rent on the Internet are in the higher price range. Also, many don't speak English so I hope you are communicating in Spanish.

I think your chances of finding a place, while you hunt around for a better/ideal rental, would be enhanced without the cats. Come for a short while and see if you really want to move here with pets. It's not impossible to find a place with pets, but a furnished place might be a bit more difficult. People have the idea, whether true or not, that cats scratch and claw on furniture, for instance.

Thank you....
I have spent time in Oaxaca City and want to live there for at least a year... yes, I know about the higher prices on the Internet but don't know how else to find a place from a distance...
my cats have scratch posts and NEVER scratch anything else....
Thanks again for your thoughts and suggestions...
Best,
Cynthia R.

Replying with the obvious question: You do know that staying in Mexico beyond 180 days requires an FM-3 type visa?

I think it may be difficult to find a place with ALL your criteria in centro Oaxaca. Sounds more like a San Miguel de Allende type accommodation or maybe in more modern barrios outside of Oaxaca, such as San Felipe. Parking space? You probably will have to rent one nearby in an outside lot.

Comfortable couch? Ouch! I have a friend who has been hunting for one for quite some time. I found one after a long search but had to buy all three pieces. I don't know of any furnished apts. with "comfortable" sofas, but of course I don't know of all rental. I hope you can prove me wrong.

There's a huge looseleaf notebook of rentals in the OLL (English language library) at Pino Suarez 519. I'd start there and then network. In my opinion, it's not a good idea to rent from a distance. Some ads that say 10 minutes to the zocalo mean by car on a Sunday morning.

I feel so lucky, an acquaintance put me in touch with someone renting her apartment, which was too small for me, but another one in the same complex turned out to be just right.... so I have all verified from someone who lives there that it is a comfy, safe place... and meets all my criteria....
when luck comes, give thanks...
that's me....
Best,
Cynthia R.

Super, great! Thanks for letting us know. Networking is the way to go. I know too many folk who have rented from afar and been disappointed upon arrival, so they start off their life in Oaxaca on a "negative" beat.

Yes, you are lucky but you also did your homework. You were clear about your requirements and put the word out. Some folks moving to Mexico just "assume" they'll find what they need.

Good luck in the first chapter of your new life.
