Language Schools in San Cristobal

Can't Post | Private Reply
Two of us are planning on spending 2 weeks in San Cristobal this July. We'd like to attend Spanish language classes and would probably want a home stay with a family.
Both of us speak some Spanish. I'm looking to improve my conversational level, which is maybe intermediate now. My fellow traveler knows more.
We'd love some recommendations of school in the area. What did you like / dislike about the school?
Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure of its current status, but for once (assuming the Instituto Jovel is still there!) I disagree with Beatricemor.
This is a copy of a message I posted in late 2005 about my daughter's experience in San Cristóbal de las Casas -

"I'm not normally drawn to make personal recommendations for places, but, as I've posted on the Spanish Forum in another thread, the Instituto Jovel - http://www.institutojovel.com/home.html - in Chiapas is my number one recommendation for language classes and homestay in Mexico. My very difficult-to-please daughter and a friend attended classes there last summer and both professed themselves to be completely satisfied that the classes, tuition and homestay could not possibly have been any better anywhere else."

Maybe I should be more clear in my plans. Going to school is secondary to visiting San Cristobal. I've been to Guanajuato and Guadalajara, so don't want to repeat going there. Cuernavaca, Mexico City - not this trip. Madrid - hey I live in Mexico, I don't want to learn Spanish Spanish!
Tony, thanks for your input.

One of the best language schools is the Warren Hardy Spanish School in San Miguel de Allende. Not the worst place in the world to spend a few weeks. lol. They have a good website.

I have taken Warren Hardy classes here in Puerto Vallarta. They are great classes. Just not what or where I want this time.

Hmmm. On 1 March 2007 a distinguished former member of MexConnect had this to say: “We have found what appears to be a really good language school here where Bubba can take some intensive Spanish...” I seem to recall a favourable sequel to this posting but have been unable to find it. Even without the sequel, the posting strongly suggests that there is at least one good Spanish language school in San Cristóbal de las Casas. I would be very glad to learn more about this mysterious language school.
