Help! Help! with my travel plans

Hola!
This is my first day in this forum. My purpose here is to get travel information on Oaxaca since my wife-to-be and I are planning our honey moon to Oaxaca this coming March 2006. I don't really know where to start. I've checked some airline fares - they're outragous. If you guys can help me out, I would appreciate it.
We would like to travel from New York City, NY. Any airlines, travel agents....you recommend?

While I have no idea what you consider outrageous so this posting may not help you.
what sort of prices were your getting?

I did a quick search at www.kayak.com and found flights in march ( march 4 - 18th) for a little over $600 (US) per person.
Of course different dates will yield different results.
