Ferry Yucatan-Tampa

I'm planning on moving to Merida at the first of the year----does anyone have any infromation about taking my cat on the ferry. The ferry folks say that they don't allow animals but I'm hoping there may be a way around this. Any ideas will be greatly apprreciated.

how sending the car by ferry, and flying to Merida with the cat.

That would be the right thing to do, not cheap though
