I've been following the papers and forums but didn't feel better until I heard this morning from the property manager. They all came through fine although I'm betting there are some good stories in it. The damage to our condo was minimal, we lost one of the sliding glass doors facing the water. I assume we also have some water damage but clean up is underway and there have already been visits by the insurance adjustors. No electricity and no idea when that will be back. All the power poles along the highway between Playa and Akumal are down. There is a detail picture of where the eye wall struck land http://www.cozumeldivemap.com/emily.html that helps visualize this if you are familiar with the area. What Roberto said is that because we were inside and to the north of the eye wall, we had less damage. Puerto Aventuras which was closer to the eye wall had a lot of damage, he gave no details but said it was extensive. There is a little part of me that hopes that during the tidal surge the dolphin were able to escape. I hate that they keep them penned up there. We have friends who own a condo there and I am going to call them later and see if they have heard anything. They are Red Cross volunteers and currently they are deployed in South Texas for Emily's next performance. I'm relieved that Emily was in a hurry and moved through quickly. I just hope that there won't be a repeat this year. It is very, very early in the year for us to have been in the storm path, usually they come our way from late Sept to early Nov.
