Drug wars in Yucatan & Quintana Roo

I'm wondering what the drug war situation is in Yucatan & Quintana Roo. I'm planning on spending the winter between Tulum and Playa del Carmen with my 100 yo dad. I'll be driving an RV down probably crossing in Brownsville. Can anyone in the area enlighten me? Thanks.

I cannot imagine a tourist having any sort of problem. Quintana Roo has more problems than the Yucatan, at least more gets in the papers, but these seem to be internal disputes that do not concern anyone who is not involved. I live in Merida and travel about the Yucatan peninsula without fear.
