Champoton - Ciudad del Carmen

Posting it here 'cause Campeche is the third leg of the Yucatan trilogy.

Has anyone travelled that stretch since the last hurricanes? (M-180 - beach route)

Drove it a year ago and it was pretty bad then, but absolutely gorgeous -

Also, does anyone know if that bizarre & spooky hotel in Sihoplaya is still operating? or any other accomodations on that 150 klick stretch?

Talking about stretches.

A few months ago I drove to the Calakmul reserve, which turned out to be an unforgettable experience.

The ruins and location were fantastic but the road was right out of a halloween movie.

About a 35 KM stretch, a ONE LANE - two way paved road, totally enshrouded and overgrown with greenery, flocks of wild turkeys, pigs and whoknows what scattering across the road, I don't think there was a stretch longer than 200 feet that was not a blind S curve. Totally nervewracking at 10 miles per hour. I left at closing time behind the park rangers who must have communicated with the entrance gate because they simply flew that road back with me trailing and feeling like a grand prix racer.

PS - the preserve is a lonnnnng walk and no facilities or supplies - Carry lotsa water
