Buying a used car in Mexico (Where? When? How?)

I want to buy a used car (4xWheel drive, offroader (jeep or something similar)).
I need assistance for:
- Where to buy a car (where and when is best)?
- Car expert (I am not a car expert and would
really need assistance of somebody knowing.
Otherwise because of my lack of knowledge I would
buy maybe a shit car)
- Registration: Somebody who could help me
with registration.

Of course I will pay for the service.
I have a work permit, temp. res.

Can you tell me when it will be possible to
have a look around for such a car with
somebody assisting? I would be arriving
Sept 4 in Cancnun.

There is a car swap meet in Cancun at the soccer stadium on Sundays. There is a bigger swap meet in Merida. You should find a mechanic to go look with you. Have them make sure that there is an original factura, receipts for all tenencia paid, and all registrations.

Playaboy is right. Also check out a Yucatan Living article that describes these things: Buying A Used Car in Merida

Yes, the title is for Merida, but the article has advice that works for all of Mexico. That title was required by the website owner, because they were "Merida focused" to attract Merida advertisers.

Here are some example weblinks from that article that can be useful when searching for a used car, and determining a fair price: The Autoplaza.com.mx is basically lists actual used car prices from across Mexico.
