I was just reading today in the local paper that Sian Ka'an is one of the areas that they are predicting will have the most problem due to the effects of global warming. Two things that appeared in the article were that it may disappear completely by 2020-2030 and that in Cancun during the same period, people with property 20 kilometers from the ocean may have beachfront property--all of this if drastic measures aren't taken soon. And even if they are, who knows? Not that "soon" is a word that translates into "Mexican" very well. There are many sides to the issue but even the most reticent people (not to mention names) have finally admitted that there is a problem. Whether it is man-made or just a natural cyclical event seems to be only minimally important. The rising of the oceans could affect not only life as we know it but even vacations!! And most certainly the real estate business. I understand that like 15 of the 20 largest cities in the world are in coastal areas. Not to mention how many of the major tourist destinations! Sorry I didn't answer your question but I think the State government may be taking a very active role in things like building restrictions, permits, locations and density factors with an eye toward the not so distant future. Hopefully someone else can answer your question better.
