Belize to Chetumal Mexico

Does anyone out there have any experience in the Chetumal area. We are presently spending time in Belize and are thinking of moving again into Chetumal Mexico and are just looking for a little heads up.

Well, I can only share my own experience which is that after years of dreaming of going to Belize when I did I could not WAIT to get back to Chetumal.

It's an odd town, which might make it perfect for some people. I like hanging out there, but wouldn't want to live there full time. Probably.

It's a sleepy little burg, on the one hand. Although they have a multi-screen cinema now and there are some pretty sophisticated coffee houses and dining along the drag down from the Three Cultures park. (Which is by the Mayan culture museum...not to be missed)

On the other hand, it's a state capital, with all the loose, corrupt money that means in Mexico. So you see nice cars with cute young mistresses and there are free music events on the Malecon and such.

It's not on the Caribbean (a main reason I wouldn't live there) but has a nice lagoon waterfront.

It's calm and tranquil enough, but not the end of the world, either. THings are cheap there: cheaper than Cancun much less the tourist towns of the Maya Riviera...AND there are shopping expeditions to the Belize free zone so you can get about anything you want.

Very little tourist/gringo presence there. Not a bad little spot, is my estimation.
