Applied for FM3 Today

Can't Post | Private Reply
I was at the Consulate in Miami today & applied for my FM3 Visa. It is supposed to be ready Tuesday, if there are no problems. They took all my papers, my Passport & my MONEY ($129.).

Before I leave South Florida I want to arrange for my "Menage de Casa" because you have to be physically at the Consulate to present your household list and get your Visa stamped for the MdeC.

Once I drive to the Merida area in mid-March, I do not want to return to Miami to do that. So, it seems best to do it before I leave and then I just have to beat the 8-day shipment there.

The Consulate says I MUST have a physical addrress in Mexico on my MdeC List - along with my Florida address. I will not have a Mexico address until I get there and even then it will be a temp one until I decide where I want to live.

Anyone have suggestions for me? An address I can use; a rental I can book from here for 1-2 months that will give me a physical address; a Broker I can use for the shipment (the Crowley Shipping Co. says I can use the Broker's physical addrees & phone - true?).

Crowley, which ships South Florida to Progreso with a 20ft container for $1,325. also says I MUST have a Broker in Mexico. Is that true?

They have ships leaving Fort Lauderdale on March 5th, 14th & 21st - so that gives me a lot of choices. Since the trip takes 8 days there must be other stops.

I need information AND advice on doing this. The method, the price, the address, the broker, on Crowley. Any experience others have will be real helpful.

Is Progreso or that beach area a good place to consider for living?

Respond here (others might need info too) or contact me directly:

Congratulations!! You are on your way. And that is speedy service for an FM-3--nothing like here in Mexico!

I do know that you do need a customs agent/broker in Mexico. About the rest I am not sure so will wait for others to answer and just wish you lots of luck and good experiences in your new adventure!!

I am not getting ANY answers about my Broker/Local Address questions. And, that is very disappointing because I really need to know these things.

And, time is running out.

There must be someone with some experience.

I would follow the advice of the shipping company. They know the business and they will know brokers too since they do this all the time. The folks at Aduana (Customs) once you arrive, can also give you information on brokers in the area. If the shipping company says you can use their address for the FM3 etc., then go for that at this point. You will simply have to pay for an address change procedure on your Fm3 once you are settled into your new permanent home in Mexico.

Good luck and don't worry. Things have a way of working out here in Mexico.
