So many people I speak with live under the misapprehension that, by moving 1,400 kilometers south of West Central Mexico (where we live now) , we are moving to a land of stiffling heat and humidity with bug-type creatures to be avoided at all costs. They are incredulous when I tell them it is quite cool where we are going at 7,200 feet above sea level despite its southern location. Today, my wife tells me the pure crystal clear air with full sunshine is a natural high at 60F. This pristine environment is a treasure for humans. Air pollution is unheard of. Human pollution of the urban surroundings is controlled meticulously.

I´m sure I´ll discover the warts soon enough.

One wart will appear when you try to walk up a hill. Another will be in the spring when they are burning all the fields.

I love San Cris and I am willing to be short of breath to visit it but I would never live there because of the altitude (well, ok and because of the freezing winters too). Obviously, everyone has different requirements for paradise. Still, if you smoke or are out of shape or have a heart condition, consider the altitude when you think of moving to San Cris.

Jonna:

I don´t have to leave Jalisco to find air pollution from burning fields. The air during burning season in Jalisco is intolerable. When we were in Chiapas last May we must have missed the spring burn because the air was mighty fine.

Whatever.

I seem to be able to breathe OK in San Cristobal at 7,200 feet but when I get up another thousand feet as we did at Atlacomulco, Mexico (State) where we spent the night, I began to panic and it was also very cold. The fat boy couldn´t breathe and thought he was going to expire.
