Ángel Albino Corzo International Airport

For those of you unaware of this development, the September issue of MÉXICO DESCONOCIDO Magazine reports on the opening of the new Chiapas international airport near Chiapa de Corzo and the airport is designed to handle 800,000 passengers annually or 600 passengers simultaneously. The new airport is about 30 minutes from Tuxtla Gutierrez and an hour from San Cristobal de Las Casas. A principal objective of the new airport authority is to provide discounted air fares competing with similar bus services. Plans are in the works for airlines serving the new airport to provide direct service to Oaxaca, Cancún, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Acapulco, Toluca, México and other cities as well as direct service to the United States. With the opening of this airport and the new autopista from Tuxtla to San Cristobal, this area may experience a tourist and business boom.

As we remodel our new home in San Cristobal, we have been flying Aviacsa from Guadalajara to Chiapas and find that the fares are very reasonable and every fifth trip is free. The schedule between Guadalajara and Chiapas is quite convenient and even with a stopover in DF, the whole trip takes less than four hours with time for a Cheese Whopper and margarita in DF. Some of the promotional fares are no more than first class bus fare and the bus from Guadalajara to San Cristobal takes a very long time.
