Trip to Mazatlan and Sinoloa Coast

Can't Post |
We will be traveling to Mazatlan at the end of May and plan on staying there as a home base for a couple of weeks. I was hoping that someone might suggest some nice villages to visit that are both North and South of the city within a days drive. As well, has anyone stayed in or know of the Hotel Belmar in Old Mazatlan.

Little villages to the north:
El Quelite
La Noria
Celistino

and a thousand more. They are well marked and easy to visit. Follow the libre road towards Culiacan.

The Belmar has both good and not so good rooms. Always check the room out BEFORE you commit.
It has a nice pool and elevators. The ocean front rooms are noisy while the interior rooms are quiet.
They also have wireless internet in the lobby and free calls to the USA.

Their bar is functioning and serves the cheapest beer on Olas Altas.
They have recently opened a restaurant which is not bad with good prices. Absolutely ZERO ambience except for the fact the white plastic chairs and tables have a view of the ocean

The Belmar Hotel is old and faded however we found it adequate for our stay a couple of years ago. We asked to see the room first. It was clean. on the 4th floor, oceanside. They have secure off the street parking. However we were not disturbed by the outside sounds. One does not need ambiance when a room only serves as a play to sleep. We were out and about all day. We ate breakfast at a place a couple of doors down, outside on the patio and loved it.

I have to agree with thriftqueen. Stayed there a total of 9 days this month (Marza) and it was adequate for all my needs and the price was right. Did have to buy ice (for my late night medicine) down the street though as the hotel doesn't supply it.
Getting older and still not down here.
