Topolobampo

I live in San Carlosand enjoy it a lot,but like getting away from the "Gringolandia" atmosphere from time to time. I have been to Playa Las Glorias,Huatabampito,Alamos and El Fuerte over the past few years-all different and interesting.

But I am curious about Topolobampo, and Los Mochis. Not looking for super-culture etc, just a nice place to visit for a week or so-and not too touristy.

Any recent news of these places? Accomodations etc?

Thanks.

Mike,
I stayed in Los Mochis for a couple of days 2 years back, after completing the Copper Canyon Railroad run. I was not impressed with Los Mochis overall, seemed like a tired, un-spectacular city, but maybe I just missed the best parts? Made a very brief visit to Topolobampo, dined at an on the beach restaurant (excellent!), but otherwise, I did not see anything impressive.

After visiting El Fuerte (went there after Los Mochis), Los Mochis is certain to be a big disappointment. I loved the classic look and feel of El Fuerte!

Sorry I don't have anything more specific, and I hope this is of some help. I'd vote for a return trip to El Fuerte!

Los Mochis has a wonderful city park and other redeeming qualities.

Hi,and thanks for your reply. We will probably give Las Mochis and Topo a visit, just for something different. But yes,I will go back to El Fuerte in a heartbeat-it seemed to be a regular Mexican town, and the only tourist influence seemed to be the passage of tourists to the Copper Canyon.

I was impressed by the old buildings and the fact that the local people seemed to be painting and fixing them up here and there. Also, nobody paid much attention to us in the market areas-just dealt with us as customers-and very little English spoken. This helps me use my limited Spanish-which is what I need!

Thanks again, and if we go next fall or winter,I'll post a brief trip report for others.

I agree that Los Mochis and Topolobampo are not that great, although it has been quite a few years since we were there. I vote for somewhere else, El Fuerte has a good reputation.
