Does anyone know where we can buy one or two shipping containers?

We're looking to buy a couple shipping containers, and then build a container house on our property in Sayulita. We've been told they are available for purchase in Mazatlan.

Probably in Mazatlan .... a friend bought 6 in Manzanillo. Said he would never do it again with 8 foot ceilings, trouble stuccoing, leaks and over all not very attractive or cheap. In 2007 they were $2500@ and $500@ to ship. He stacked them so had to have a crane. Built on a hill so lots of foundation and hill support. Best one I've seen is just the container with doors and windows cut, dropped on the beach and a palapa built over it.

Thanks. A shipping container home is just one of many ideas we're kicking around in hopes of building something small and cheap. We only use the property a few weeks a year (for now) so we want to keep the costs down.

I'll spend some time looking at the link you sent.

And yes, it was probably me that was asking about this a couple years ago. We actually built a "tiny house on wheels" here in Colorado with hopes of towing it down to MX. In the end, logistically it didn't make sense and we sold it. But, the profit goes a long way toward building in MX.

by the way - I agree. A simple shipping container with a few windows and a door is the way to go.

Unless you covered it with straw bales you would probably melt during the hot and humid summers in Sayulita, Probably cheaper to build with the local materials like block or brick. suerte

Find a guy named Harvey Craig in Sayulita. He has this going on and has all of the sources, including for the containers, that you will need to get started.
