Serie del Caribe 2005 - Baseball

Can't Post | Private Reply
México is currently hosting the representative baseball teams from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela right here in Mazatlán. The Series kicked off last night with México (Mazatlán's Venados team) victorious over Venezuela with a score of 4 to 0. With Carnaval 2005 getting underway tomorrow, it should prove to be a fun and busy week.

The Series is being broadcast TV and there are "big screens" set up in many locations so even if tickets to the series aren't possible, fans can still catch the games.

Actually, the Mexico team is an "all star" team. Even though the Venados won the Liga Pacifico, the team playing in the series is a mixture of Mexico's best players.

Hi all!

From what my Mexican friends tell me, Esteban is correct. There are apparently two Venados players on the team representing Mexico. The game today between Mexico and the Dominican Republic promises to be a real pistolero!

Two???? Check out the team roster on the internet. Santana knows his team plus reads the papers. He is a little hot at the suggestion that the team isn't the real Venados core team. The Venados had options to pick up a limited number of extras for reinforcement, something entitled to all series winners, and something which they all did. It is a great series and good for the Mazatlán Venados. Enjoy.

I'm sure there are more than two Venados. In fact I believe that there are three players from outside plus a few more on the pitching staff. I found the names but can't remember where on the net I saw them. I'll dig deeper and keep an eye out tonight for the names. Great game last night! The Venado team is a AAA team with and I believe, is an affiliate with a major league team in the US. My son talked with one of the scouts who was down here looking at the Venados. A Mexican friend told me there was a player who had been sent back to the "minors" ie Mazatlan who was pretty famous with the Colorado Rockies team.

Well, I certainly don't pretend to know what I'm talking about on the subject. I think it's great that the Venados are doing so well and representing the nation in the Series. Tonights game promises to be great!

Derrick White, who hit a home run the other night, is a player from the Mexicali team. Dessen, a pitcher from the big leagues in the US is also playing and not on the Venados roster. Those are two confirmed non venados from the Liga del Pacifico website. I guess the game is tonight so I'll check further.

Right, all the teams in the Caribe Series were allowed to pick a limited number of reinforcements. It is part of the series rules. The core team representing Mexico is Venados since they were the playoff winners. In fact one of the sportscasters on TV this morning broadcast that the Venados had won again last night, instead of saying more appropriately, Mexico. It is all very exciting for local fans as the team had another big win last night. They are playing fabulously together.
