NEWBI to MEXCONNECT

Hello everyone.

Just wanted to introduce myself to the group -- I'm a newbie here on mexconnect after being a lurker for a few months. I'm currently living in Portland, Oregon after a several-year residency in Puerto Vallarta where I owned a bed & breakfast. I had vacationed in PV annually from 1979 to 1995 when I bought the property there and moved down. I quickly came to the conclusion that it was a wonderful place to visit (and probably retire), but not a place to do business. I sold the property and escaped to the USA in 1998.

Now I find myself approaching retirement in a few years, if not earlier, and I again am considering a move -- a return -- to Mexico. Although I have many friends in PV, my research tells me that both financially and climatologically (is that a word? heh), Mazatlan may be a better bet. I did not like the oppressive heat and humidity of PV summers but read somewhere here that Mazatlan may be less so. True? My only familiarity with Mazatlan is the airport -- passing through customs when one had to do that there on the way to PV. I remember thinking, "Gosh, this place is so flat and dry (i.e., desert-like) compared to hilly, lush PV."

Anyway, thanks for the ear. Any comments would be appreciated.

Daniel

The summers here would be very similiar to those of Puerto Vallarta I think. September and October are really hot and humid here. We had a "green" summer this year, when lots of rain ended a very long dry spell.

Mazatlan is quite different in many ways to Puerto Vallarta. Properties and rentals tend to be cheaper for starters. Mazatlan is a busy, working seaport city with lots of activities worth checking out.

Greetings PDX hombre from a hombre from across the Columbia to the north. My wife and I are planning several two week vacations to the Chapala area next year and anticipate a move there (well me anyway) in 2005. I believe if I don't stop talking to her about Mexico so much she may send me on ahead for a year or two. Anyway, I've got a local buddy in Vancouver that I meet with for coffee frequently who already owns property in Chapala and enjoys Mexi-chat. PV and Maz are a little warm for us. If you'd like to join us sometime email me privately and we can possible "do" coffee at Barnes & Noble in Janzen Beach. Regards, Bob
