Culiacan - directions to Sears Galeria center

Can't Post | Private Reply
We will be leaving the snows of Colorado on the 25th of Nov. for our new condo in Mazatlan and we will be spending 2 nights in Culiacan late this month. We want to visit the Pier 1 store and others in Culiacan and we need some directions on how to get there easily. The web site shows it to be at Alvaro Obregon 1880 Sur. I have a Guia Roji map that shows the main streets of Culiacan only, but it does show Obregon that apparently crosses the city from north to south. We will be traveling on the autopista from Guasave, but I can't remember the signs that direct traffic to centro and what the name of the highway is. I'd appreciate some very specific directions on how best to get there. Thank you, Dick

Mapquest.com has a good map of Culiacan. Perhaps if you can see the road layout you can better find your way.

Thanks, We made the stop on the way down late in November and found two Sears stores and not what was represented as a Pier 1 store. Traffic is challenging or confusing when trying to get on the correct street from the main north-south street, but it can be overcome with a bit of patience and u-turns. Dick

Over here in the Yucatan, Pier 1 is inside of Sear's. I figured they bought them or something. At any rate, did you go inside the Sear's? Because there probably was a Pier 1 inside.

We went inside both stores in Culican, which are very nice, and found that the inventory of a Pier 1 (sort of) was integrated into the Sears stuff, sort of. We were hoping for, but not expecting, a separate department offering much of what they offer in the US, which we didn't find. So we bought or ordered our furniture and furnishings here in Mazatlan and Mesillas and are satisfied with the results. Thanks for your information! Dick

Sorry, I couldn't tell from your post if you'd gone inside. I guess I missed it but I was surprised when I found a Pier 1 inside a Sears down here. Last time I noticed in the US they were separate but maybe they are together up there now too.

Recently I was in one in Merida and did find a set of plates for our condo. They were nice but not fantastic and they were on sale so I got them. The whole Pier 1 area of Sears over there looked like they were selling everything off, it was kind of bare.

The Pier 1 website has a Mexico directory of the stores and all of the many stores are shown at the same address as the Sears store. At one time I had inquiired about this and someone told me that they, as well as the Sears "franchise/license" or whatever entity were owned by Carlos Slim of Telmex fame. I can't vouch for the truth or authenticity of this. In the states they are quite separate and don't appear to be related to Sears or any other company, for that matter. Appearances in this regard mean nothing, of course. In the states they are still a great and growing chain of stores out of Ft. Worth, TX offering a wide diversity of nice products and decorator items at reasonable prices, but suffering at the hands of Target and Wal-Mart it seems. That is what we were hoping to find in the Culiacan stores. When we asked employees in the Sears furniture department about the location of the Pier 1 store/items they responded with a blank stare, having never heard of the name. And so it goes. Thanks very much for your interest.
