Christmas in Mazatlan (2nd try)

Can't Post | Private Reply
We will be in Mazatlan for Christmas week (Dec 20-27) and wanted to know where to go to experience Posadas and other Christmas celebrations, etc. in Old Mazatlan. We are staying at a beach condo but since this will be week 2 of a 5 week Mexico stay we prefer "real" Mexico to "condoized" celebrations. If you can suggest any places (we are driving down) we would appreciate it. This entire trip is to be a fact-finding mission for future living in Mexico.

Gracias por todo, Nancy

You will be in Mazatlan just in time for the traditional Mexican Posada (Christmas Procession) beginning at 6:00 pm December 20th, in Plazuela Machado in the heart of el Centro Historico. It is free and everyone is invited. The Plazuela Machada, as well as the Plaza Revolucion (nearer the cathedral) will be decorated beautifully at this time of year and there will be a variety of things going on in both places. What a great time to be in Mazatlan, and I hope you enjoy your visit very much!

Thank you, we will be driving in from Durango that day, so we'll be sure to leave early and make it. See you there!

Marlene, we've decided to get to Mazatlan on the 19th but need a place to stay for the one night. Reading the other threads in this forum, the Hotel Belmar sounds great. Would you happen to know how to get in touch with them so I could make a reservation. I fear that with the excitement of Posada, etc. they may fill up that night. We are leaving CO on Dec. 13 and will have plenty of time (even with a detour to Zacatecas to see a friend) to make it on the 19th. I do not want to miss the Posada, we can check in our condo on the 20th but don't want to be driving in from Durango that day. Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Nancy,

That's good news that you can arrive earlier in order to enjoy the festivities. I will contact you privately to get some information and I will happily make a reservation for you.
