Bus from Guadaljara to Mazatlan?

My husband and I currently plan to spend most of the year in the Ajijic area and January through March in either Manzanillo or Mazatlan. We've looked at airfares between Guadalajara and Mazatlan - they are really expensive! Last year, we traveled from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara on a Primera Plus bus and it was great, but I can't seem to figure out which of the bus lines serves both Guad and Mazatlan...can someone help? As usual, thanks for your willingness to help! Karen and Jerry

To the best of my knowledge, TAP is the preferred carrier from Guadalajara to Mazatlán. I don't recall the price but it shouldn't be too spendy.

NO, I'm sure it's not spendy. It is certainly the preferred mode of travel...does anyone know if they have a website? Thanks again for your help.

Gordon, I have taken the TAP a couple of times and it is OK. But the best I have found from Maz to Guad is called Turistar. That is the ejecutivo class bus from the Elite line. Same price as TAP I think, but roomier seats which recline waaaay back, and they even give you a pillow and a snack! Dee

But watch out, those Turistar buses are getting old.

The one I took from Nogales to Mazatlán had problems with the air conditioner resulting in water dripping over a third of the seats in the middle of the bus.

AND the toilet was busted and worse, one of the doors to the bathroom wouldn't close, so there was a smell issue (this was true on the way up too.)

They can be very pleasant, but they can also be pretty nightmarish too. Luck of the draw. Best to be prepared for the worst, especially when you're going to be on the thing for hours and hours and hours.
