A busy April in Mazatlán

We are having a busy time since Carnaval ended last month. The month is flying by and today is the big motorcycle parade with thousands of motos partaking, just a couple of blocks from our house. Many of them spent last night "cruisin" around until the wee hours, setting off car alarms as they passed. My hubby looks forward to the annual Motorcycle Week, much more than I do, and has dreams of owning a big old Harley himself one day. It seems the tempo of the traffic around town has kicked up a notch too, so my car will remain parked until that passes.

Here is a link to our April events, just to give everyone an idea of what we are up to here in Mazatlan in a typical April.

Coinciding with the motorcycle party was the unveiling of a monument to Pedro Infante. At the south end of Calle Olas Altas is a brassy looking sculpture of Pedro on a motorcycle. It's a cool looking piece of art. Friday night the unveiling was jammed with people and since that time all the moto freaks are taking pictures along side the monument. We had a hard time sleeping last night because of all the bikers driving by. They head up to the restaurant "El Mirador" where there is a great view of the city. Many of the bikers are dressed like very clean "Hells Angels" . If they only knew what the "Angels" were really like! I'm glad their garb doesn't reflect the reality of the image.

As I watch the elegant Holland America Cruise ship sailing out of the harbour just now in the late afternoon sun (photo attached), I can only imagine what the unsuspecting passengers, here for only the day, thought of Mazatlŕn with the Hell's Angels lookalikes everywhere!

Marlene;

Trust me, none of those "Hells Angels" lookalike/wannabees would last 20 minutes in Oakland, California.

No, Marlene, I am not and never was a HA.....never had the desire or the cajones. I was a television news cameraman in the S.F. Bay Area. I met Sonny Barger a couple of times and also knew a HA by the name of Foo and another called Gut. I wouldn't want to fool with any of them.
