Thanks for posting this. I have a link to don Goyo from CENAPRED (http://www.cenapred.unam.mx/popo/UltimaImagenVolcanI.html), but I wasn't watching it when this explosion happened. I found it interesting that many of the comments turned this eruption into an opportunity for political commentary. Some of the comments proposed sacrificing EPN to the volcano gods!

No, no, no. Civil Protection authorities have specifically requested that no politicians be sacrificed in the crater of Popocatépetl because of potential risks to those conducting the ritual.

However, in case of an urgent need to make a human sacrifice, they have thoughtfully made arrangements for such activities in other safer areas, such as at the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan, or at the offices of the Hacienda in downtown Mexico City.

Here is the same video, but with an accompanying article with commentary by a vulcanologist. Worth reading – at least for me; when I watched the video several times more with his commentary in mind, I noticed quite a few features that I hadn’t seen on the first viewing: the shock wave he mentions, and the smoke that begins to emit from several spots quite far down on the slope facing the camera.
