Yes but at least there is some posting going on over there. This place has slowed to a snail's pace. There are about 4 threads alone on Mexconnect at the LP.

Prior to the departure of the "malcontents" leaving, a big portion of the posts had nothing to do with Mexico. Just a lot of ill attempts at humor, insults directed at this website and to some of the posters. They don't need a Mexico website to post on, just any website where they can ramble on and on about nothing important. No big loss. This website will rebuild with people and they will pay, because they want to know more about Mexico. Everyday you see more and more names appearing in who's on line. We need to encourage the new members to join in and post and we need to spend less time thinking about the departure of some of the "malcontents" that left and really contributed very few things of importance. Controversial issues are fine as long as they have to do with living, working or vacationing in Mexico, but I feel controversial issues that are personal attacks against others, have no place on the forum. Disagreeing with someone's views is one thing, personally attacking someone you disagree with, is something else.

I think a lot of people who left Mexconnect weren't malcontents nor participated in the threads mentioned. There are many who just don't feel like paying. For every Pedro, there was a JRinPV. For every Scott, an El Bote. I really think the ornery posters were well outnumbered by the good, valuable ones. I hope things pick up around here but I'm not all that optimistic.

They may have been outnumbered, but I think many of the valuable ones were intimidated and therefore didn't post. Also, I agree that some good posters didn't come because of the money issue. I regret that, but I am optimistic about the future of this site. It is not the QUANTITY of posts that will make or break this site, it is the QUALITY of the posts.

The internet is not all that different from TV. Advertisers look at the hits (hits = ratings) therefore quantity is important. And if it has quality content then you've got a winner.

Well I for one miss some of those ornery cuss's. Not all of them though. Even the best newspapers have room for cartoons, and a couple of those folks were pretty clever. One thing I really don't understand is someone who spends regular time on a forum and walks away for thirty bucks a year. Are they pikers or floaters? Or, maybe I just don't get it.

I agree with you 100%. The advertisers will look at the hit totals. But according to some figures that David provided, that I don't now have, the forums provide way less than 50% of the hit totals. So good quality posts and answers will attract those that just visit and don't post. They come here for information. A lot of posts that say nothing about Mexico and just attack others, I believe, will turn many of those repeat hitters away. Every time you check the "Who's on Line" feature, take a look at the number logged into the forums and the number of the guests. Most of the time, if not all, the guest figure will be way higher. Remember, the forums are just a small part of the Mexico Connect website.
