After reading all those answers, I think I'd be better off in Sarasota, Fl., even if I have to walk around with a gas mask, store food and water, and watch my neighbor for signs that he/she might be a subversive. Thanks to all for his/her two cents worth. I enjoyed reading the responses even though most had nothing to do with my question. If I can't live on $1,000/ a month there, I think I'll continue working and trying to live on $3,000 a month here.

you can live extremely comfortably on $1000/mth if you own your own home-sorry if we digressed from your original question

I dont know where the house ownership came from. Someone misread my first post. Anyhow, I wouldnt buy a house in Mexico as I like the freedom of movement and I have no thoughts of permanence not to mention how hard it is to sell these things. Of course, a wonderful house at $20,000 might cause me to reconsider.

I am sorry to hear that you are not moving to Mexico. If you are over 55 years of age, Do not work too much longer. If you are 35. Wait about 25 years more....heheh

I do not know where you could buy a house for that price at lakeside, Maybe a closet???
