Update of Local B&B's

  | Private Reply
Can anyone recommend a good, clean B&B in either Ajijic or Lake Chapala? I have read the old reports on this forum but would like to have current information. We may be visiting during late June or early July for 10 to 12 days on a fact-finding/house hunting trip. Any help will be appreciated.

This is one you might consider - almost next door to the Lake Chapala Society, short walk to the plaza and a lovely atmosphere:

Pretty pictures, but no rate information. That's a major turn-off for me.

Sorry Rolly but the rates are there, under the picture of each room - see here:

http://www.estrellitasinnajijic.com/rooms.htm

I wouldn't have posted the site had that info not been available for the OP.

OOPS I had my screen size set for 150% which neatly cut off the right column.
I stayed there several years ago when it was the Swan Inn and Jody King was the manager. Nice place.

Agree with Bournemouth. Estrellita's is very nice. If you check their website, please know that 65 USD per night is twin beds. 70 usd per night is for queen or king beds. For 25 dollars less a night. Google Hotel Casa Blanca in Ajijic. Right across the street from Estrellita. Stayed there in 2004 for my first visit here for two weeks and 2005 for ten days before I found my apartment. Very helpful folks. think they do a summer special. My 25 dollars less is a ballpark figure, but know it is at least 20 dollars a night less than Estrillita, but it is very Mexican Rustico. Estrellita is a tad more upscale. Good luck on your first visit here.Either location is clean and very well located for your first vist here, especially without a car T

You might want to check out the Angel Flores Guesthouse, website www.angelfloresguesthouse.com It has 8 rooms, 7 with king-size beds, a fully equipped outdoor kitchen and dining area for guests to use, a great outdoor living and relaxing space, 2 miradors and price is $50 per night, $300 per week or $1000 per month. It is just one block above the malecon, between Colon and Juarez so you can walk everywhere - a short block to the bus and restaurants, 3 blocks to the plaza. Oh, and there is free WiFi too.

I live right above Angel Flores. It's a beautiful B&B and has one of the best views in town. And the folks who run the place are first class.

Agree with you and Skip is a great host. However, it is located nowhere near the malecon. Think you meant carretera. T

Skip even allows dogs. Pretty rare down here. Now Charlie has three excellent choices. No breakfast at Angel Flores, if I remember corrently. Continental breakfasts at Estellita's and Casa Blanca, if that has bearing on the decision. T

Ooops! T is right - I did mean the carretera. And there is no breakfast provided although the kitchen has everything and there is a corner tienda just one house away, the best baker in Ajijic (at least I think so) on the other end of the block (and another tienda), possibly the best roast chicken place just down from that and Cafe Montana - which does serve breakfast - is about a two minute walk.
Another B&B which is worth a mention is Adobe Walls just down from Ole Ola and round the corner from Nuevo Posada. It does serve breakfast, has some really nice rooms but is a good bit more pricey than Angel Flores Guesthouse. I think the cheapest room is around $80 but not 100% sure.

A senior moment. We all have them. Tried to call Casa Blanca Hotel to report back to Charlie. Called yesterday and got a young lady that spoke no English and no one was there that spoke English. Called today two hours apart and there was no answer either time. Think I need to subtract Hotel Casa Blanca from his consideration. Adobe walls for 80 USD? For five bucks more he can stay at La Nueva Posada, with posh rooms, right on the lake, pool, choice of menu for breakfast, full restaurant and bar and receive a 10% discount if he pays with US dollars, which puts him very close to the top of his price range.

We are doing a lot of work for Charlie. Think it is time for us to hear from him. I have spun my last wheel in helpfulness until we hear from him. T.

Michelle and I want to thank each of you for your wonderful information. We have made notes of each B&B. read their reviews and will make a final decision in the near future. We would love to meet and provide liquid refreshments for everyone when we arrive. Again Thank you for all the great data. Charlie

No one has yet mentioned Ajijic Suites. 3 blocks from plaza, very nice decoration and ambiance. It does not provide the "breakfast" part of B&B, but some rooms have kitchenettes and the site is very close to a variety of good local breakfast places. They have 8 rooms which vary in price from $45-$70/night. I have put up a number of out-of-town friends there and they have all been happy.

Here is Ajijic Suites website: http://www.ajijicsuites.com/rezeasy.html

Here is TripAdvisor reviews: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g499405-d1079772-Reviews-Ajijic_Suites-Ajijic_Pacific_Coast.html

You will have to cut and paste the urls to your browser because I am not smart enough to figure out Mexconnect's system for active links.
