Two questions

  | Private Reply
These came up on TOB, but they seem to being flyswattered by moderators with no explanation. Think we can handle this in a much more mature manner, if you do not include me.

1. What do you think the percentage of Canadians vs. Americans are in lakeside full time?

2. How do you think those percentages change during high season?

3. Is a Gringo(a) an American, a Canadian, or both?

Yup, I lied. Three questions, not two.

T.

Here's my SWAG:

Foreign residents by Nationality; USA 40%, Canadian 45%, Other 15%
Snowbirds by Nationality; USA 2%, Canadian 95%, Other 3%
Winter Season Balance: Residents 60%, Snowbirds 40%
Summer Season Ballance: Residents 90%, Sunbirds 10%
A gringo is a non-latino foreigner; a Chinese is a gringo, a Brazilian is not.

What typo? Maybe you don't know what a SWAG is.

Snow birds. Americans 2%. Canadians 95%.

Anyone non latino is a gringo.

Neither of these are close to correct. T.

You criticize others' estimates, but you don't give your own, so your criticisms ring pretty hollow.

I do have my own thoughts, Rolly but want to see how this post plays out, before expressing my thoughts. To express my thoughts at the beginning would simply cause disagreements with my thoughts and not provide answers to my very real questions. Thanks for your understanding? T.

I have no hidden agenda. Just thought this would be an interesting topic, since we all talk about it privately. Just wanted to hear from folks on their thoughts. If starting a new topic and asking for the opinions of others, is called trolling. I am guilty as hell. Best wishes, Mouth. T

I can't believe how silly you all are. It is easy to figure out the percentage of snowbirds in the area at any one time. First, bribe the local Walmart manager to find out how many bottles of maple syrup were sold that week. Then, spend ten minutes at the LCs Snack Bar and count how many "eh's" you can hear. Next, multiply that number by the number of local bars that have run out of beer. Finally, rent a small boat by the lake and ask to be rowed to the middle of Lake Chappala. Dive to the bottom of the lake. If a Canadian team has not won the most recent Stanley Cup, count the number of broken hockey sticks, pucks, and goalie masks you find at the bottom of the lake. Stir all the ingredients together, and divide by five. Easy, isn't it? Easy as falling off an igloo.

Rolly, the very fact that you took sides in what was meant to be innocent questions, in which I truly wanted to hear folks opinions, surprises me. I will not respond to my OP again, because of what you said. Please feel free to cut my membership on this board off, if you wish. I think you were totally out of line on your accusations to me, and in fact, incited others to do the same based upon your negative responses to me. Think you owe me an apology, my friend. As I absolutely did nothing out of line. Cannot say the same for you. T.

This topic has been started twice on TOB and both times been shut down by the Gestapo mods. What difference does it make just what the demographics are of the Gringos living at the Lake at any given time of the year? As one who has spend a fair amount of time in both Canada or the US, I fail to see any difference between the two societies. What the hell, we are all from North America. I have observed the "chip on the shoulder"attitudes of some Canadians and at the same time the need of people from the US to demean or denigrate Canadians. I just don't get it!

Dear Chinagringo,
I must respectfully disagree with you. The percentage of Canadians down here is of earth shaking significance. If too many Canadians move down here, it may imbalance the weight of the earth and send the earth spinning off it's axis. Glenn Beck has predicted the end of time, and now I see that it is the Canadians who are causing it.

You were married to a Chinese woman and I was born In China - did that upset the state of well being? Besides you apparently didn't listen to your Jewish mother and find a good JAP to marry! Now that statement ought to get the politically correct crowd riled up!
