Someone asked in a recent issue of "Lake Chapala Review" about a Thai restaurant in Guadalajara. Lo and behold my wife and I spotted one on the way to an auto body shop, ate lunch there, and loved it. It's the Formosa Gardens Restaurante at Av. Union #322, five blocks north of Ninos Heroes or four blocks south of Av. Vallarta, on the west side, at the corner of Jose Guadalupe Zuno Hernandez, in Sector Hidalgo, C.P. 44150. We saw no posted hours, but they opened yesterday, a Friday, at 1:30 P.M. The place is nothing short of elegant, including interesting architecture, cloth table coverings, and cloth napkins. There is limited off-street parking adjacent to the restaurant, and street parking in this mostly-residential neighborhood. Seeing that different menu sections offered Chinese, Japanese, and Thai food, I was a bit skeptical of their doing Thai well, but decided to take a chance. We have been hungry for Thai food, having been used to outstanding Thai food in the SF Bay Area for the last several years, so really only looked at that section of the menu. It offered soups and appetizers, and perhaps a dozen entrees ranging from $75 to $160 pesos. The presentation of the food was a work of art, and as soon as I got a whiff of my entree, I knew it was authentic and would be delicious. It was, and my wife was also extremely pleased with hers. The food was obviously freshly prepared, and the service was quite attentive without being obtrusive. Just in case you can't tell from the above report--we liked it very much and recommend it wholeheartedly!!! Frank Burton
