This is the time of the year that the splendid days and arrival of migratory waterfowl on Lake Chapala compell me to stay here despite my love of Chiapas for which I will soon depart. Large flocks of ducks have just arrived on the north shore of the lake and soon we will see the fat white pelicans which are among my favorite creatures on the planet. Days are unbelievably beautiful on the lake with crystal skies and winds kicking up the surf on the turbid lake which is at a stage of fullness that is magical and all those coves which were dry and forlorn for years after we moved here are filled with lake water and magical to behold. The magnificent mountain vistas west of the lake bathed in crystal sunshine must be seen to be believed and the weather is so fine on the lakeshore it is necessary to believe those empty Sprite plastic bottle discards befouling the beaches are just the result of mankind´s disrespect for God´s gift to this fine region. You who are destined to become detritus can´t lose sleep over this minor flaw which, if you think about it, is a metaphor for life among humans. I live on the lake shore and and deliver my shit out to mingle with that of others and then, after I am gone, that will be my true contribution such as it is. Depressing and uplifting thought. Nearly every day I and my dogs walk upon the lake´s beaches and the various malecons and then through the forested environs of La Floresta or Christiana Park and we have it to ourselves thank God and then we do the same thing among the colonial enclaves of San Cristóbal so you must concede this Mexico is a fine place if you don´t get inadvertently shot.
