Shifting Sands? & "Midlife Mavericks"

When we were in Ajijic a couple of years ago the realtor told us that we had to be careful when selecting a home in a certain area of town because the ground was unstable. Supposedly some city? government building had a wall pulling away? Anyone had in problems with that?

I just received Blue's book Midlife Mavericks and it was terrific. It came yesterday and I finished it at five this morning. The diversity of their stories was incredible as was the tenacity of all of the ladies featured. I thought that Ajijic would attract a certain type of person. I wasn't exactly sure what that type was. Surprisingly enough, there wasn't a type exactly.

The women cut across all economic, age, social standing, religious and about every other way of categorizing a person. The main thread that ran through their vastly different stories was the love they had come to feel for Mexico, their adventurous spirits and the need to be free. Amazing group of ladies. Even after experiencing some terrible things the majority chose to stay. One thing that rang loud and clear throughout the whole book was how kindly and caringly they were all treated by their Mexican neighbors, and how safe they made them feel.

It's a good read and a great endorsement of Ajijic.

I also read Karen Blue's "Midlife Mavericks" when it first came out and I have to agree with you that it is a "Good" book.
