Sears

As I understand it there is a Sears store in Guadalajara. Does that store have a tire center?

I need tires before I come down and if I get them at Sears then they might honor the warranty. I will ask here but if there isn't a tire center there it doesn't matter.

I don't think that Sears in Mexico will honor a Sears USA warranty. They are two separate companies. Most, if not all, US branded businesses are separate companies from their US parent here. Sears, JC Penney, Walmart, Citibank, Sams Club, Costco, Etc.

I have used my Sears credit card in Mexico City, and here in Cuernavaca. For small transactions, it is a routine transaction. For a large purchase, it requires a credit approval from the issuing company. In our case, Sears in The USA.

We bought some furniture here on two occaisions last year, and a dishwasher. I can tell you that the Maytag dishwasher warranty had to be registered in Mexico. I had called Maytag in The USA to find out the best way to send in my warranty card. I was instructed not to send it to Them in The US, but to send it to a Mexican address.

It takes about an hour and a half to get credit approval from Sears in the USA for a large purchase at a Sears in Mexico. The furniture department manager here in Cuernavaca told me that is because they are in fact, two different companies.

I have been in to the automotive department here. I wasn't buying tires, so I did not really look at all the brands they had in stock. I did not notice any familiar brands of those I did see.

For a definitive answer, I think your best bet is to inquire at your local Sears store where you live. You probably won't get any answers at the sales counter in the tire department, I would ask at the customer service desk.

This has been my experience at Sears in Mexico. Maybe someone else has had a different experience.

Hope this helps, Rex

Costco's stores in the US and Canada honor each other's warranty. Maybe their Mexican stores will do the same.

Pau: There isn't any Costco in KY or at least as far as I know. I am really in the sticks. Sam's is 80 miles away. I am thinking about buying Michelin tires and hoping that the Sears road hazard thing would cover me on top of the tire warranty.

Rex: Thanks for your input. I didn't know they were different companies. I doubt that this store in KY will have any idea what I am talking about but I will try.

Maybe I can find a Goodyear dealer in Guad. I will check Google.

I've always thought tire warranties were pretty worthless, to be honest. "Oh, sure. There's 40% wear and tear, so we'll give you 40% off the undiscounted price on a new tire."

In the FWIW department, last spring I went tire-shopping in Morelia. Strangely (or not), I found the least costly tires at Costco, and they turned out to be Michelins. Much, much less costly than Goodyear and the rest of the band.

Thanks all. Now I will just buy Michelins at my local store and use Costco if they have any manufacture problems. I think there is a Costco in Guad. I have heard of it being talked about here.

In any case someone will carry Michelins and will honor the factory warranty. It is world wide.
