Renting

I would need to rent a place somewhere in Ajijic. I have a black labrador who is nine years old and would need a place that would allow a big dog as a renter. It seems, from what I have seen, people will allow small dogs. Do you think I will have a problem renting in Ajijic with a large dog?

Thank you for your replies.

Kathleen :) :) :)

Hi Kathleen,

I'll be having the same but different problem. We don't have a big dog but we do have four long haired chihuahuas and a very goofy poodle (goofy but house broken) All together they weigh about fifty pounds, but I haven't seen any discussion on "multiple little darlings"! Anyone have any suggestions, (besides giving away dogs?)

There should be no problems for either of you. I know people who rented with a Newfoundland, another large mixed-breed, and (temporarily) an Old English Sheepdog. There are lots of renters here at Lakeside with multiple small/large pet combos. You will want a house with a yard, no doubt. Bring your pets.

I rent here as well and I don't remember that even being an issue when I was looking for a place. It is rare to see any family here, Mexican or otherwise without a pet or pets or animals. If you have a large dog I would be sure to rent a place that is well gated with enough property for it to exercise a bit. Walking a dog here is not the same as what you are probably used to as there are so many street dogs. Good luck, Scarlet

do pay attention to the advice of renting a place with a yard. when i was there a couple of weeks ago i heard of more than one case of a small dog attacked (and killed) by street strays.

if you live in the village, i don't think that taking your dog for a morning and evening work is going to work out that well.

some people do take their dogs to the lakefront area that is now a vast grassland and let their dogs run offleash. if you're dog is iffy on obeying commands, a 50-foot piece of rope might be in order.

Fantastic!

No matter where we are, we fence our critters. They are little but lion hearted, their mouths might get them into situations that their size can't bail them out of!

Thanks for the input,

We have been renting for years with our Golden Retriever. 3 different houses. No problem. We are now renting close to the Ciclopista (paved bicycle lane with a barrier on the street side) and walking the dog is no problem at all. We also see a great number of other people walking with dogs there.

Ajijic just keeps sounding better and better. We're hoping to bring a couple of horses too, if it's possible to work it out without making us crazy.

Yuh think? Hopefully we can find a place to keep them around the lake past Jocotopek (sp?). In the book that we got while we were there, (spendy little gem seems like it was forty or fifty dollars) it looked like that area was pretty much agricultural.

I bought a case of mangos at Costco a few days ago and they were heavenly. From Mexico,..naturally.

Ahhh,...Ajijic,
