Remarkable Incongruity

Can't Post | Private Reply
So here we are at the end of lifeŽs chain living on private or governmmental pensions and having spent maybe 40 years earning a right to sit in a chair or rock on a porch for the rest of the time we have left but people who supply our services and have families to feed do not have monthly checks coming like clockwork and , no matter how meager those checks may appear to be to us from a discernably fortuitous and reliable source, the folks tending our gardens or cleaning our houses or fabricating our tortillas are not loving us more but less. Live with that but always remain alert.

Dawg,

Many or most of us who moved here are not really feeling the effect of the recession that most Mexicans are. I think that this year it would be wonderful if the expatriates paid the aguinaldo and vacation pay that they are legally supposed to pay to their help. The Mexicans can not usually complain for fear of losing their job but they are entitled to the money and should be paid. That would certainly create a little good will.

It's not just gringos who don't always pay. My city has already announced that there is no money to pay a Christmas bonus to the 1300 city employees.

This is a good time to be living in Mexico.

Dawg knows you re joking gp and has a thick skin or would not be so foolish as to expose hissef to possible ridicule by posting repeated inanities and pretentious postulates inviting scorn which, to date have not attracted worthy rejoinder but, rather. excessive sweathog foot odors.

There is a Lakeside person trolling about here Dawg identifies as the unelected president of his fan club who has been sending Dawg poison pen letters utilizing the Mexconnect PM function and, over the past few days she has declared me an abusive drunk and immoderate poster of self-centered comments on my lifeŽs experiences and she may have a point there as most of the things I find relevant happened to or around Dawg and I do like my booze. This failed and self-hating troll hates Dawg and well she should but here is a good story:

It is not we of the foreign community so many among our kin shamelessly call themselves "Gringos" as if they can "Step&Fetch" their way into their desired Mexican community by tap dancing their way in a la Birmingham Brown of Charlie Chan fame but IŽll tell you this. If you want respect from the Mexican community or any other community you wish to accomodate, youšll never get there tap dancing, Exhibit some self-respect.

Getting Respect is the direct result of (1) having self respect.
(2)respecting others.

This seems to be very challenging to some whatever-you-want-to-call-yourselves. Attacking someone with a poison pen shows neither of the above. What's the point of it, anyway? By the time we've passed the midpoint of our time on this planet, we should know what we are and we don't need anyone else to name our flaws.

So, whoever it is should get a grip and focus on the the zits in the mirror.

Now, as far as the stepinfetchit theory of trying to fit in with Mexicans.....that's just foolish, and we should know better.
Behave with justice and respect for your neighbors, whoever they are. Don't make an ash of yourself. That ought to do the job.

Here in our Houston household we have Latino workers who do our lawn and clean our house. Because we have lived in Latin America, we always give them the Christmas bonus. We view it as a tradition and consider the relationship as being more than just business.

I know many people who do not pay and most of them are well todo Mexicans.
After the alguinados are given out all the gardeners and maids compare notes and I can assure from what I hear the foreign community is not the worst when it comes to not paying the Christmas bonuses.
Stop beating yourselves up.
