It just rained here in Ajijic down by LCS. Well what do you know. It never rains in Ajijic in the winter....except
when Oregonians have a party scheduled for this afternoon. Go figure... Did it rain elsewhere lakeside?? If
you need rain just ask the Oregonians to have a party :-) Rain was around 11am fyi.

We had a little in the upper village too. It does rain here in the winter; usually a very few days in Jan or Feb. Last year we got over 7 inches in Feb. over a couple of weeks. That's not typical though, 1 or 2.

Yep, just a sprinkle at the weather station in Riberas, not enough to register, but enough to water spot the car.

It was raining in San Antonio this morning, too. I was having breakfast in the Sunrise Cafe next to the open patio, and there it was....rain. Smelled good and dusted off the plants.

Yes I know we Oregonians caused the big rainfall last year in the winter. For those who
don't know in the pacific northwest it can rain or be gray skied for sometimes 30 days in
a row. Sun sets very early also in the winter. We just hope we didn't bring it with us
this year again.

This seems to come up every year around this time, but for those of us who believe meteorognomy* may have some validity, the first twelve days of January are called las cabañuelas and are said to predict the weather for the rest of the year:

How to forecast Mexico’s weather for the year ahead (from Geo-Mexico)

Speaking as another Oregonian, we don't call it "rain" there. It is known as "liquid sunshine". The next time you see an Oregonian wearing sandals, discreetly check out their feet. You will see the little webs between their toes...

Zardoz:

You are being too kind on the 30 day estimate. Don't remember the exact year (sometime in the early 2000's) when we set a new record of 59 days straight rain in Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast. It is no wonder that so many Oregonians relocate to MX!

Buena dia Zardoz..............from Government Camp, OREGON where it is a balmy 12 degrees F this morning.

Great snow in the Cascades this year. Much cooler than normal, which is fine with me as the sun was out all day yesterday. Crispy snow - as opposed to the normal 'Cascade Concrete'.

Clamped on the snowshoes yesterday and climbed 2100 feet up to Timberline Lodge. Temp did not exceed 26 according to my portable digi-therm, but the sharp East wind kept it well below that (which as you likely know keeps the rain/snow/clouds down on the valley) kept us moving quickly with a goal to get a Hot Toddy at the Lodge.

I would much rather hike up to the Chupenaya above Ajijic in January.............. but it's not happening for me this January. Maybe next month - if I can swing it.

Greetings from Beaverton Oregon which is basically a suburb of Portland. Husband and I just returned from spending a few days in our hometown of Bend where the sun was shining and the air was crisp. I walked around Bend with only a sweater on in 20 degree weather - and I wasn't cold. Traveled the Santiam pass back to Beaverton on Sunday, Jan 2nd and it was bumper to bumper 20 - 35 mph traffic because of people who were terrified to drive on snow and especially snow and curves. The sun was shining and to my eyes, it was an absolutely beautiful day. My dear husband has been whining about being cold. We both easily tolerate the dry cold in Bend but have trouble with the wet cold in the Oregon valley. I never turn on the heat in my bedroom and this morning I woke up to an inside temp of 48. Outside it was in the low 20's. Today is supposed to have a high of 36 but when I went outside it feels much colder to me because of the moisture in the air. Rain in Ajijic - I'd love to be in Chapala or Ajijic right now. I'd move back in a heartbeat but my husband didn't like living in Mexico. Fun to hear from other Oregonians. Will be interesting to find out if the weather prediction is correct.

Well thanks for the update from Oregon and I appreciate and agree with all that was said. Bend is so much sunnier
and pleasant in spite of the cold temps. Sigh the valley (willamette)is just cold dark and wet this time of the year.
Any of you Oregonians want to buy our craftsman house in Corvallis so we can move down here fulltime? Didn't
think so. :-)

According to Chapala Weather Net, no measurable rain in Riberas so far this year. YMMV
