Rain and the lake

A news item on today's Mexconnect home page reports on heavy rains throughout Mexico, including Guanajuato. Has that resulted in any positive benefit to the lake, or is it too early to tell? I found a picture I took of the lake from the pier in Chapala in 1969. Water was right up under the pier, with boats tied up and offering rides. It may be a while before that happens again.

As I prepare to return to the lake I must have made 5 phone calls today to Ajijic. Two different residents told me that the lake is up two meters. The last report I had said it was only up 1.27 meters. But then I asked if the water had reached either the Ajijic (Old Pasada) or Chapala piers. The answer is NO, but it's a lot closer.

So apparently its one heck of a lot better than it was, but has a way to go. I can hardly wait to get back.

We went to Chapala yesterday and found the lake looks much better. Because of the uneven bottom the lake covers up lower areas first. That is why on the west side there is some water along side the pier for about 1/2 the length. On the east side water is still a long way out but it is the best looking it has been for years. In addition the forecast is for continued raid for quite a while. For those of you that do not get local news, it also seems that some of the states that have been hesitating to release water from their dams are getting to the point that their dams can not hold much more so they will probably really turn some loose.
