Rolly says, "The noise comes from poor or corroded connections in the wiring. There are a number of connection points between your phone or computer and the central switching office of the phone company." Ed, Rolly is right. the bad connections can be almost anywhere. Here in the states, my phone reception was so bad, that after calling the phone company twice (and being told the problem was in MY phone lines) I replaced them. Whew, what a job. But, I replaced old POTS (plain old telephone system) lines with high-speed data lines, "Cat 5e". What a difference in phone quality and internet connection speed! If you don't want to get that involved, I suggest you check the network interface connection on the outside of your house where the company line connects to the house line. An easy way to see if the problem is in your house lines is to connect a telephone directly to the company line at the interface. (check this website for details. (www.homephonewiring.com/nid.html)If you get clear reception there, you can count on the problem being in your house lines. That was where my problem occurred. Over the years, sun, rain, and cold had caused the insulation to split and crack off the house wires where they went into the junction box at the interface point. Every time it rained, water would cause small shorts in the line, and the phone reception was awful. If you are lucky, you might find an easy fix by replacing a short bit of wire there. Just do a Google search on "how to replace your phone line", and you will find more information on how to do it than you need. You asked for the time, and now you know how to build a clock.
