I was just checking out the Tepic forum and they highly recommended Carl Franz's book. I haven't heard it mentioned here. Is this a must read?

Carl and Lorena are the author and editor of a classic! It's more a "diary" of their Bohemian ramblings about the country but has a enormous amount of usable information for the hippie travelers as well as the more conventional. It's a good read with lots of vocabulary, tips on getting around, true stories, ideas on how to blend into to the culture, and any number of other items. It's only about $24 so I recommend you grab a copy. Many bookstores carry it, as well as Amazon.

Shameless self-promotion:

I'll hit the "Borders" (pun intended) tomorrow and see if I can find it.

Kip, don't miss it! Carl Franz and Lorena Havens' book is a classic, to be read and re-read. It's Jack Kerouac and Frommer's combined.

I credit this book for getting me to Mexico in the first place.

One cold Canadian winter, I was holed up three weeks with a doozy of a flue...I had just gotten hold of the People's Guide...and had the time to read it.

The next winter, our family headed off into the Baja with a small trailer, three kids and family dog...knowing nothing about Mexico...except details from this book. It primed us to have a great time.

It's a helpful book for anyone contemplating a Mexican adventure.

enjoy! Wendy

I had been reading The Peoples Guide to Mexico for twenty five years and then about four years ago, I discovered their website. I wrote them a quick note, they answered, and later I found myself on their website. And later, when I moved to Ajijic, I found that they were my neighbors. Lorena and Carl are both wonderful, creative people whose books I just love. And yesterday, while rereading Teresa A. Kendrick's excellent informative book about our area, "Mexico's Lake Chapala and Ajijic", under "Special Thanks", I noticed Lorena and Carl's names. Another feather in their caps and another book not to be missed.
