Normally I'm just smiling and humming...

as I drive around the area but the other day as I passed the municipal dump I burst out laughing. Just as the Vietnamese resisted France and the U.S., so too are the Mexicans resisting "gringoization". This is not a criticism of those who are laboring mightily to get that sucker built. Just the facts, ma'am.

For those who haven't been by lately, the wall is still under construction, and when finished will block from passing motorist's view the piles of garbage dumped out there.

However, the trash trucks are now driving up to the next level, the hillside nearest Ajijic to discharge their loads, thereby raising the visibility level of the fresh refuse far above what would logically be maximum wall height. Am I missing something?

And "Daniel" is aggressively promoting his motel and restaurant which is located on the hill on the opposite side of the libremiento from the dump. As low as 150 pesos a night for a room. I intend to stop in for a cerveza and lunch so I'll let you know about the quality of both food and air.

I love it down here!!!

Did you miss something UD or did I? I thought I read the the wall project was stopped because it was in violation of a local setback ordinance. Let us know about the hotel .... curious minds want to know.

Spin? From a respected news organization? I haven't been in the loop on that deal at all but I noticed at least six things I'd question about the article.

Who's taking the fall for not knowing about the setback ordinance? Good chisme here.

And Georgia, I stopped at Daniel's today. Found out they serve cena only. And from the motel you can't see or smell the dump, altho they weren't burning today. I didn't go to the restaurant because it was locked up but it looks as though it faces away from the dump (even tho it is closer than the motel) toward the hills. I'll try again some evening when I'm out and about.

I just drove on in to Chapala and ate at La Cocina Economica de Charly at Madero (main drag) #300. Clean, great food (limited menu) and reasonable prices. It's becoming one of my favorites. And right next to it is La Companera, my favorite street taco stand. Opens up around 5 or so after Charly's closes. Check 'em both out sometime.

Will do, UD. Thanks for the update. I'm still trying to get to Tom's Pizza out in Joco and never seem to have the time. I'm starting to compile a list.

Tom is my favorite reprobate and curmudgeon! It's always entertaining to visit with him and Manuela. And you can learn a lot just listening. Like the location of the best (and reasonably priced)butcher in the area.

And have you ever been to the original Alfredo's California restaurant in Chapala? The menu is HUGE!!! Great selection, good food, reasonable prices, great service.

........that UD's favorite curmudgeon is no longer serving pizza. There goes the name and the webpage. Apparently Tom decided that driving to Guad all the time to buy ingredients for pizza was a PITA when he could acquire everything he needed for Texas style barbeque right there in Jocotepec. We arrived just a couple of days too late to try one of those great looking pizzas as seen on Tom's website. We had to settle for the barbequed briskett......he was out of pork. It was a bit of a sacrifice but, with the help of a couple of cold cervecas, I did manage to choke it down.

Donnie is right.....Tom is the crankiest old fart west of Chapala......a great guy to shuck and jive with while smearing sauce all over your body. Tom's barbeque is defiantly a 6 napkin meal.
