Let's get this show on the road!

We just may get this house sold yet.

We got an offer on Jan 3, we countered, and it was excepted. We’ve now been through the buyer’s loan qualification, home inspection, termite report, property survey, and a secondary inspection for mold. For those of you who don’t know, MOLD is now the greatest insurance and litigation issue in home sales here in the U.S. Most of the old lead paint and asbestos issues have been resolved, so the lawyers had to find another way to pay for their Porsches and kids tuition. The new motto of the American Bar Association is “Mold is Money!” Allstate insurance has recently quit issuing homeowners policies in 17 states because of claims and litigation over mold.

Anyway, after the last report came in smooth as a baby’s butt, Patty and I have finally gotten a couple of nights of decent sleep. We can actually start making definitive plans to get rid of some of our “stuff” and deciding what we really want to take with us. A lot will depend on what house we decide to rent for a year. Most of the houses we’ve seen at Lakeside, both for rent and sale, are fully furnished and have very little storage space.

We are scheduled to close on the house March 14th. Our reservations to Guadalajara on Aero Mexico are for the 19th. The next day we plan to have a seafood cocktail at “Las Playas” on the plaza, spend a little time in the pool at “Casa Flores”, and then maybe a few Margaritas and some dinner at “Los Telares” or “Manix”. On the morning of the 21st, we shall hit the ground running and begin looking for a long-term rental in earnest.

Being a practicing devout pessimist, I will, of course, worry about what can happen in the next 6 weeks. Things seem almost too easy from here on out.

Unca J. When you cross the border - finally - you will have the opportunity to moderate that cynicism a bit.

My personal approach is to be a cynical optimist - expect the best, and be pleasantly surprised when things work out. [i.e.] rarely disappointed- really helps the adjustment factor and makes life so much more fun!

Congrats UJ!! Bet you guys are overwhelmed with excitement and relief right now!! As for finding a place, well ... while most things happen at a tremendously slow (some would say relaxed and non-hectic) pace in Mexico, you will be surprised how quickly you will be able to find THE place to live. Once there you'll find a great number of rentals available and will have the chance to pick the right one!! Good luck and congrats!!

Let me help you a little with your pessimism... Remember that March 21th, in mexico is a holiday, (Natalicio de Juarez), and as this is on friday, we will have a "puente" (long weekend), so you maight find that your Aeromexico flight is oversaled and late, the plaza is really crowded, las playas restaurante is close due to the holiday... and in "casa las flores" they just run out of tequila for your margaritas, and there´s no way to get more becuase of the "ley seca" (no alcohol selling) in all the stores, and when you finally decide to go to sleep... you will not be able because of all the fireworks, celebrating "la fiesta", any way.... BIENVENIDO A MEXICO AMIGO!!!!!!!!!

(just joking.....)

from Carlos Castaneda

"There are three kinds of bad habits which we use over and over when confronted by unusual life situations. First, we may disregard what is happening or has happened and feel as if it had never occurred. That one is the bigot´s way. Second, we may accept everything at its face value and feel as if we know what´s going on. That´s the pious man´s way. Third, we may become obsessed with an event because either we cannot disregard it or we cannot accept it wholeheartedly. That´s the fool´s way. Your way? There is a fourth, the correct one, the warrior´s way. A warrior acts as if nothing had ever happened, because he doesn´t believe in anything, yet he accepts everything at its face value. He accepts without accepting and disregards without disregarding. He never feels as if he knows, neither does he feel as if nothing ever happened. He acts as if he is in control, even though he might be shaking in his boots. To act in such a manner dissipates obsession."

Not all that bad.

The last time Aero Mexico was over booked on our flight, they offered to put us up for the night, fly us out the next day and give us two freebee RT tickets to anywhere on their route.

Even if it is a holiday, I know where I can find copious amounts of tequila in Ajijic.

it is extremely important to have copious amounts available especially if it's anejo.

to that effect there was one store open in chapala at christmas-dec.24 which was most accomadating in replenishing my room supplies.
