Lake Unilever

Quick. Go out and get Wednesday's MURAL where you can all read this:

As of October 1st Lake Chapala is at 3,280,000 Cubic Meters or 41.54% of capacity and the Rio Lerma is pouring 443 Thousand liters of water per second into Lake Chapala at peak. Pictures in MURAL demonstrate the effect of this water inflow. Boats are back at the Chapala pier and doing business.

The weather cycle has turned as it always does. Shallow Gringos may relax in peace now and fire up the barbeque without fear that the view from the hillside deck will be impaired by natural phenomena or bad Mexican water conservation habits.

Aren't we lucky to have all of these smart gringos hereabouts to say nothing of the input from the Global Nature Fund/ Living Lakes/Unilever incestuous group dedicated to what? Self- perpetuation?

Beware of Greeks bearing gifts!

This shallow gringo is verrry happy. The lake is rising almost as fast as the Canuck Buck. If you listen carefully you can hear the local real estate cartel gearing up for action. I could write the script....lake up, stock markets up, house prices up = buy now! Funny thing, it'll probably happen.

Ian:

I share your pleasure at the lake's resurgence. The sense of joy in the village among both locals and expats is palpable and exciting. I make fun of the Unilever/Living Lakes/ADL pontificators because they are amusing in the same way the dreamers who started the ill-fated Fort Basurera out on the Libramiento are funny. But remember this; only God can make a lake.
