Lake Cleanup

Can't Post |
Locals will be gathering at 11:00AM this morning (Saturday, October 4th) at Ajijic's Seis Esquinas neighborhood in the square to fan out for beach cleanup. Some have requested that I put out the word here as they can use all the help they can get.

To get to Seis Esquinas, follow Hidalgo west from Ajijic Plaza until you spot the big tree and Seis Esquinas Square.

Went to the lake cleanup. Not one Gringo but Tubs here. Welcome to Mexico, y'all.

Sorry, Bubba but there was just not enough notice. You posted at 8 and wanted to meet at 10. Please see if you can get a little more lead time next go around.

Thanks, Jerry. That was, indeed, short notice. I am sure there are many out there who would love to help given time to plan. I have told my Mexican friend this.

I, too, would have been there if I had known sooner. I didn't find out till I came home and turned on the computer that afternoon. But, my maid said that her kids saw a lot of Gringos cleaning the lake that morning, pulling out lirio, so maybe there were more in a different place from where you were, Bubba.

Not at Lakeside now, but am curious...just how difficult is it to manually pull out lirio and other plants that have gained a footing from the low lake levels (which are now rising)?

When we lived in Minnesota, Eurasian Milfoil and Purple Loostriff (SP?) was a big problem. It migrated from lake to lake on boat props and trailers. Harvesting mechanically and monitoring launch sites brought it under reasonable control (although the bass fishermen loved it).

Also, are the larger bushes/trees that are now partially underwater being removed? Just curious.........Dutch
