Hey folks, If you read my column from last year about the turtle rescue efforts in the Melaque/Barra de Navidad/La Manzanilla area you already know that the season in in full bloom right now. I just received an answer to an e-mail, and former mayor Alejandro (Alex) will welcome any assistance you wish to offer. Donate money or tools and equipment, or meet the crew and actually get down and dirty in the sand with the egg collection process. Whatever you choose to do to help, this is an excellent opportunity to enjoy an experience that few of us are ever privileged to join in. You'll work with the locals (several speak excellent English), learn a bit about the habits of the turtles, do something good for our eco-system, and most importantly you'll be surprised at the effect it has on your spirit and soul. You'll always remember what you did. And if anyone has an old repairable four-wheeler they could donate it would make those long beach patrols a lot easier and more productive. Let me know and I'll arrange for repairs and transport or you can contact Alex direct, whichever is easier for you. E-mail Alex at tortugazul2001@hotmail.com if you're interested in helping. And if you do go down there, these are all great sight-seeing/shopping areas. I'll even tell you where my mystical Indian-trained body worker lives so you can get a wonderful massage therapy and mental stress reduction session after a day of shopping and a night on the beach with the crew and the turtles. Thanks, UD Shameless self-promotion: http://www.headformexico.com
