You are correct, sir. MailBoxes, Etc. is located on the Carretera in San Antonio Tlaycapan, just east of Ajijic and does both receiving and sending from their facility for Fed Ex. Their local phone number is 766 -0647 and everyone speaks English as pretty much only us foreigners use their services. fug

Sol y Luna located in the same shopping plaza as El Torito offers FedEx service. I used them in August when selling a home in the States. The package had to be sent overnight. Arrived with no problems.

I see them most often when they deliver to my house in Ajijic. UPS cant' find my house even though I live only one block off the Careterra. Most recently they said a package was rejected 9 time even though they'd never actually rung the doorbell. I've heard that DHL is notoriously unreliable in Mexico. It's FedEx for me.

My experiences are as follows: I haven't used FedEx or DHL although they are reliable. I HAVE used UPS extensively when I was selling Japanese porcelaion on eBay and shipping it from my house to the US. I have probably used UPS more than all of you combined. Every week I would ship anywhere from 4 to 8 boxes of porcelain. They are TOTALLY reliable and showed up at my house anywhere from 12:00 PM to 1;30 PM like clockwork. Everything arrived within 2 days when I shipped 2nd day air, sometimes even in one day. Great service!

John, could you tell us about the cost of FedEx-ing a two-pound box from Ajijic to a place of your choice in the USA? And what about insurance?

I'm going to be shopping around soon as I'll need to send something securely to the U.S. in about a month. The other day I poked me head into Sol y Luna and asked how much to send a flat envelope. She said it depends on zip code. I didn't have the zip code but knew it was going to Arizona, so I said, "Phoenix". She didn't verify it exactly, but said they're running "around $470 MXP".

Like I said, I'm going to be shopping around soon....

I wasn't aware that shipping 4 to 8 packages per week with UPS made one a large volume shipper.

When dealing with UPS either NOB or in Mexico, personal experience says that it isn't all that it is cracked up to be. All may be fine as long as you don't have a claim for damaged product. Last fall, we contracted for a package insured for $500 extra to be shipped from a UPS store in TX to our home in Albuquerque. Even with more than adequate packaging, they managed to somehow put a dent in a copper vessel sink. The hoops to jump through were endless and it probably took 60 days for them to complete the claim. Another situation that we are still dealing with has to do with three packages being shipped from Taos, NM back to the artist in Chiapas. Three boxes all addressed the same address but only one delivered to Chiapas. The other two boxes ended up being returned to Taos and one of those boxes was missing over half of the product. UPS Mexico and UPS US are both in denial . This started back in July and still isn't resolved.

Now try Mailboxes, I think ut might be less or better still get the mailer yourself, call them and ask how much. Sol y Luna and Mailboxes are charging you for a service. UPS Toll Free 01 800 902 900. Ask for English speaking person. If you want to ship a box, measure it in cm and weigh it. Tell them city and State.
