Housekeeper and Gardener Compensation

Can't Post | Private Reply
We purchased a home and moved to Ajijic in Feb. 2011. We have a housekeeper for five hours one day a week and a gardener two days a week for a total of approximately four to six hours. Both are employed by two other neighbors during the week. I am getting mixed information from friends about Christmas bonuses and termination pay. I have been told that since I am not their only employer that severance pay would not be required by law should I decide to dismiss either of them (OF WHICH I HAVE NO INTENTIONS). Also, what is protocol when it comes to Christmas bonus? Am I required to soley give them pesos, or may I provide an actual? I would appreciate any "REAL" advice concerning this matter. Confused....Thanks

The Christmas bonus (aguinaldo) must be paid on or before the 20th of December.
It must be paid in cash. Gifts, Christmas baskets, and other presents do not fulfill the requirement.

Severance pay is required. The fact that someone also works for others does not change your obligation.
