Am interested in the expatriate community in Guadalajara. How big is it? How organized is it? How does living there differ from living in Lakeside?

Bear in mind that the area known as Lakeside is a string of very small towns. Guadalajara is a city of more than six million people. There's really no comparison.

There's also no real expatriate community in Guadalajara. There are a lot of foreigners living there--maybe 25,000 or so-- but most of them are not retirees: they work for either Mexican or foreign businesses. There is an American Society in Guadalajara, but it's little used and has few members and fewer activities or services.

Living in Guadalajara would be comparable to living in New York. Living at Lake Chapala would not be.

Hello zorro 13,

For the American community in Guadalajara the place to go USED TO BE years ago the American Legion. It was even more active than the American Society before the AS fractured and went to pieces. If the American Legion is still there, pass by and see what you can find out.

I just googled and Guadalajara has two American Legion posts. Post 3 in San Antonio and Post 12 which location I didn't note. Telephone numbers are listed for both. In the past, non-members were welcomed as guests.
